Method

Why these numbers are different.

Most "journal acceptance rate" pages online are estimates. These are not. The JAMA Network journals publish a statistics table every March in a Year in Review editorial: manuscripts received, acceptance rates overall and for research, and median days at each stage. We quote that table, link the editorial, and record the capture date. Where a journal publishes nothing, our 49-journal survey says so rather than guessing. Requirements come from each journal's instructions for authors on the capture date; verify on the journal's page before you submit.
